Research Engineer, Analytical Mechanical Design | UTC Research Center | East Hartford, CT
United Technologies Corporation, a Fortune top 50 company is a dynamic

The Design Engineering group at United Technologies Research Center
(UTRC) is seeking an engineer to work in the area of structural analysis
and mechanical design for the development of innovative prototype
hardware in support of UTC Business Units.
Required: BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar field with 7+ years of professional experience.
Preferred: MS in Mechanical Engineering or similar field with 5+ years
of professional experience.

and other research organizations. Candidates are expected to have both
technical depth and breadth and be highly adaptable to provide
leadership to enable UTRC to realize value in areas that are new to UTC.
Application products include jet engines, helicopters, elevators, HVAC
systems, security, and power systems.
The candidate must be able to synthesize various multi-disciplinary
requirements and transform them into cost effective system/component
design solutions. Specific duties will involve proven experience in
analysis of static, thermal and dynamic structures. The candidate needs
to possess knowledge of both analytical and linear FEA-based methods of
problem solving . The candidate should be proficient in the use of one
or more Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools to produce complex CAD
geometries.
In addition, the candidate will be expected to conduct design reviews
and document analytical results to ensure that high quality and safe
products are produced. The candidate must achieve technical milestones
within time and budget constraints. The successful candidate must be
creative and be able to provide strong leadership in the development and
application of mechanical design capabilities. The candidate is expected
to contribute to Intellectual Property (IP) to secure patent
opportunities. The candidate should be cognizant of current
manufacturing practices and techniques and understand how their relative
merits affect cost and schedule.
The position requires creativity, analytical thinking and interpersonal
skills that will facilitate effective interactions with both internal
and external stakeholders. In addition, candidates must have solid
organizational skills, excellent technical written and verbal
communication skills as well as the ability to function effectively in a
dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment. Use of SolidWorks, and/or
Unigraphics CAD software is preferred. Knowledge of various code
requirements (i.e. ASME Pressure Vessel Section VIII Division I, Power
Piping B31.1 and/or UL codes) is a plus.
